Dear colleagues,

Welcome to the Annual Meeting of the German Society for Biomaterials, set to take place from 10th to 12th of October in Berlin. It is with immense pleasure that we gather in the very city where the DGBM was founded 31 years ago. Berlin has undergone remarkable growth since then, not only in its social, economic, architectural and
artistic landscapes, but also in its role as a leading hub for research and development, boasting a dynamic start-up ecosystem. Home to four esteemed universities – Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and the Universität der Künste Berlin and Europe’s largest university hospital – the
Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the city epitomizes multidisciplinary research, where many new ideas are born. Technological innovations and solutions from researchers from a wide range of disciplines such as materials science, biochemistry, biotechnology and many other fields find ideal conditions for translating inventions
into therapeutic applications for the benefit of patients worldwide with the help of the Charité and its pioneering approaches to patient care.

This is why we want to dedicate this year’s DGBM Annual Meeting to the translation of biomaterials and the requirements for their successful implementation for future therapeutic approaches. You can expect exciting science, lively discussions and dialogue with start-ups and established companies in the wider biomaterials field and ample time for networking during breaks and our social event. Located on the campus of the Freie Universität in the south Berlin, our meeting venue offers a unique opportunity to embark on a guided tour tracing the footsteps of 14 Nobel Laureates and explore the rich legacy of the Dahlem Campus, often dubbed the “German Oxford”.

We are sure that you will take home new scientific impulses from the DGBM in Berlin. This capital city, with its eventful recent history, where the contemporary meets the historic and the “Currywurst” has made the leap into haute cuisine, is always worth a trip that you will certainly enjoy. We look forward to meet you in Berlin in October 2024.

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Ansgar Petersen
Prof. Dr. Nan Ma
