SOCIETY FOR BIOMATERIALS MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
Membership dues include print or online subscriptions to the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research (JBMR) and the SFB quarterly newsletter Biomaterials Forum. Members receive 24 issues of JBMR (including eight issues of Applied Biomaterials JBMR Part B). Members receive discounts on all other Society publications and can subscribe to Biomaterials and The Journal of Biomaterials Science - Polymer Edition at reduced rates.
Members also receive discounted registration at the society's annual meeting, special symposia, workshops, and short courses. Members may choose to participate in the Society's Special Interest Groups, and may enjoy unlimited access to all areas of the SFB website.

Active Membership
Any person, regardless of citizenship or location within or outside the United States, who has demonstrated a significant interest or contribution in the field of biomaterials via one of the following criteria, shall be eligible to be an Active Member. Only Active Members may vote at Business Meetings.

Eligibility Criteria (applicants must demonstrate ONE of the following)
- Attendance at two Society For Biomaterials Annual Meetings (past five years).
- Publication in the Society for Biomaterials Transactions (past five years).
- Publication of two papers in biomaterials science in referred journals.
- Patents obtained in the area of biomaterials.
- For individual/government applicants unable to demonstrate one of the previous four criteria: A letter from an active member identifying specific contributions. Interests, responsibilities and research areas related to biomaterials.

Any person interested in the field of biomaterials who does not qualify for Active Membership because of not yet demonstrating a significant interest or contribution to the field of biomaterials shall be eligible for Associate Membership. Associate Members cannot vote at Business Meetings.

Student Associate Membership
Full-time, degree seeking students (post doctorals, residents, and fellows do not qualify) shall be eligible for Student Associative Membership. Status must be verified by an academic official (advisor, department chair, etc) who assumes liability if the individual is not a student. No other verification method (student identification card, tuition statement) will be considered. Student status verification must accompany application. Students must provide expected date of graduation. Student Associate Members cannot vote at Business Meetings. Student Associate Members can waive their benefit of reduced-cost subscriptions to the Journal and can join Special Interest Groups at no charge.
