Technology & Training Forums
In 2007, the Society For Biomaterials will offer the opportunity for other organizations to participate in the Annual Meeting by hosting a Technology and Training Forum. These forums are intended to be technically-based educational opportunities for members and attendees of the SFB Annual Meeting. The sessions may be hosted by corporate entities (e.g., meeting sponsors, exhibitors or other interested biomaterials corporations) or federal government agencies.
Technology and Training Forum Hosts Receive:*
- Theater style seating for up to 250 attendees in an SFB-assigned meeting room
- LCD projector and lap top
- Podium microphone
- Promotion of the Forum in the final program book
- One complimentary use of the Society For Biomaterials membership list and pre-registrant mailing list to advertise the session being held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting
- Table in rear of room for handouts
*Additional meeting room/speaker needs will be the responsibility of the Technology and Training Forum host and all arrangements must be made directly with the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers. All expenses for the speaker(s) and handout materials will be the responsibility of the Technology and Training Forum host.
What is a Technology and Training Forum?
Technology and Training Forums are unique educational opportunities for attendees of the SFB Annual Meeting, hosted by corporations and individuals working in federal government agencies that can be characterized by at least one the following:
- A focus on technology and training
- An introduction to a new technology or material
- A “how-to” session or an exposure to new guidance documents, standards, or government initiatives
- An applied and focused program on the development, testing and use of biomaterials-based medical devices and biomaterials/components
Technology and Training Forums are not intended to be a sales and marketing opportunity, and SFB reserves the right to decline a Technology and Training Forum proposal that includes a competitive comparison or resembles an “infomercial.”
When and Where Will the Forums be Held?
Technology and Training Forums will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, Chicago, IL. Technology and Training Forums may be up to 1.5 hours in length. There may be as many as three sessions running concurrently from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., with three additional concurrent sessions available from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All approved programs will be scheduled during one of the aforementioned time blocks at the discretion of SFB.
Who Should Host a Technology and Training Forum?
- Members of federal or research organizations (including FDA, NIH, standards organizations)
- Corporate entities with a focus in biomaterials research, development, and marketing that can provide an applied and focused educational program to SFB members/Annual Meeting attendees on the development, testing, and use of biomaterials based medical devices and biomaterials/components
What are the Responsibilities of a Technology and Training Forum Host?
Program Development
Development and implementation of a Technology and Training Forum will be the responsibility of the presenter or Forum sponsor, including all costs associated with the program speaker honorarium and travel costs, handout materials and the application fee.
Meeting Space
SFB will provide each host with a meeting room to accommodate up to 250 attendees
(theater style). Equipment will include screen, podium with microphone, LCD
projector and lap top, and a table in the rear of the room for handouts.
Additional meeting room or speaker needs will be the responsibility
of the Technology and Training Forum host and all arrangements must
be made directly with the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers.
Application Submission
Applications, including a description of the intended program, must be submitted to the SFB Headquarters no later than January 15, 2007. An application is included below or may be obtained by contacting dlemyre@biomaterials.org. Program organizers will be notified if their proposal has been accepted by January 31, 2007.
How Will Forums be Promoted?
SFB will list the accepted Technology and Training Forums in the final program book. The meeting program will also appear on the SFB Web site. Mailing lists of SFB members and pre-registered attendees will be provided for one-time use only to companies/individuals whose Technology and Training Forum applications have been accepted.
Application Review and Acceptance
Applications to conduct a Technology and Training Forum are due to the SFB Headquarters office no later than January 15, 2007. Each application will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Annual Meeting Program Committee for appropriate educational content and relevance to the meeting and the intended audience. Review criteria include the program characteristics listed in the description section. All applicants will be notified as to the acceptance (rejection) of their proposal by January 31, 2007.

Cost
$1,000 per session. Sessions may run up to 1.5 hours in length.
