Biomaterials Days were conceived as an opportunity for student chapters of the Society For Biomaterials to highlight cutting edge research and the work done by students. Various academic members of the Society had conducted Biomaterials Days in the past but in 2008 the program was given official status by the SFB Council and grant money was made available to support and encourage it.
A Biomaterials Day is a regional event attracting area students and SFB members in academics, industry and government as well as non-SFB members interested in the biomaterials field. Each event features a keynote speaker with the host university determining the scope and content of the day itself. Previous events have included exhibits, student presenters, student poster sessions, panel discussions, guest lecturers and networking.
