Cardiovascular Biomaterials

Nonabsorbable Polymers

The non-absorbable polymers on the other hand need to be permanently implanted inside the patients body. Most of the cardiovascular devices use these types of polymers. In the endovascular stent graft, the vascular graft (prosthesis), annuloplasty ring, cardiac patch, or the ring on the base of a heart valve for suture placement , all generally use the polymer polyester. Polyester is biocompatible and is stable under the in-vivo conditions. In case of non-absorbable suture materials, nylon and polypropylene are most commonly used.
