Absorbable Polymers

The abosorbable polymers that are used in the cardiovascular devices are discussed in this section. The absorbable polymers are generally used in situations where the polymeric part of the device is no longer needed. For example in case of surgical sutures, the use of absorbable sutures eliminates the necessity for the patient to go to the surgeon to remove the suture after a wound is healed. Especially if its deep inside the body, the need for re-surgery is eliminated. Some of the known polymers used are actually co-polymers made from different types of monomers mixed in different proportions. Polylactic acid, polyglycolic acid, polydioxanone are some of the examples.
